Learn Why You Shouldn't Feed Wildlife at the UW
Feeding wildlife might seem like a kind gesture, but it can have unintended consequences for both animals and people and contribute to human-wildlife conflicts.
To learn more about the impact of feeding wildlife and discover alternative ways to connect with nature:
Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) published a new focus sheet on Avian Influenza, commonly known as “bird flu.” This resource is intended to help the UW community stay informed on recent bird flu activity, ways to stay healthy, and how to report sick or dead wildlife.
While the current health risk to the public is low, sick animals and people have been reported in Washington state.
STAY HEALTHY
Food service establishments are required to sanitize food contact surfaces after cleaning with soap and water. Sanitizing can use high heat or approved chemical solutions to reduce germs on surfaces to a negligible level. Refer to the Sanitizing Food Contact Surfaces Poster for more information.
Chemical waste generators will soon have a new, faster way to submit a Routine Chemical Waste Collection Request.
Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is in the process of adding QR codes on all routine waste carboys to make submitting a collection request quick and easy:
Scan the QR code on the carboy.
The Fire in a Food Establishment Focus Sheet can help University retail food establishments protect workers, customers, and the facility from heat, smoke, fumes, chemical, and/or water damage hazards, and assist with reopening after a fire.
Most Environmental Health & Safety teams relocated to the new Gateway building above the Sound Transit Link light rail station on Brooklyn Avenue NE between NE 45th and 43rd Streets.
Programs and services that moved include:
