COVID-19 prevention measures will be followed during all in-person training courses.

Health and safety training

EH&S Training provides health and safety training courses that meet regulatory and policy requirements and support a culture of safety for the University of Washington. We offer online, classroom, and blended courses, and provide guides to help personnel find classes appropriate for their work.

Most EH&S courses are free to faculty, staff, and students with a valid UW NetID. Please keep in mind:

  • If you do not have a UW NetID, ask your department/unit for sponsorship.
  • Temporary UWNetIDs cannot be used to access courses.
  • UW alumni who have trouble accessing courses should contact the Training team.

FAQ

No. A UWNetID is required to take online classes and to pre-register for classroom classes.

No. The course registration process captures your UWNetID, which is connected to each course completion records per compliance requirements.

After June 21, 2019, users with temporary visitor accounts (accounts with a “wireXXXXX” format) will no longer be able to access online safety training courses provided by the Environmental Health & Safety Department (EH&S).

EH&S has moved our online safety training courses to the Bridge Learning Management System. Temporary accounts cannot access the Bridge Learning Management System due to insufficient access rights to register for courses. In addition, EH&S documents all safety training courses completed by each person for compliance purposes, and because temporary accounts are not assigned to a specific person, allowing access undermines the University’s compliance responsibilities.

The solution is to obtain a sponsored UW NetID from UW-IT for visitors required to register for a class or complete an online training.

If you have a permanent UWNetID and you cannot access training courses, please contact the EH&S Training team at 206.543.7201 or ehstrain@uw.edu.

UW alumni can use their permanent UWNetID to access training courses.

UW alumni who have trouble accessing courses should contact the Training team at 206.543.7201 or ehstrain@uw.edu.

You can sponsor them for a temporary UW NetID through the UW’s IT Connect.

The online Safety Training Report tool Report by Individual tab allows you to view EH&S safety training records and reprint course certificates.

Please allow one or two days after completing a training for your records to show. If you still have questions or concerns after that time, please contact our Training Office for assistance at ehstrain@uw.edu.

One-on-one or small group training may be considered a consultation and not a documented EH&S training course. For a consultation, see the EH&S Staff Directory list to find the group associated with the needed subject area. If you have trouble deciding who can help you from our directory, please contact us.
