Health and safety committee nominations open soon

 

Nominations will open soon for the next two-year term of UW’s health and safety committees. Every UW employee is represented by one of 10 committees; each plays a key role in supporting workplace health and safety. Don’t miss the chance to nominate yourself or a colleague!

How does a UW employee become a committee member?

Committee members are:

  • Elected by their peers; or
  • Selected by a union; or
  • Appointed by leadership.

Who is eligible?

All University personnel (including managers, full-time, temporary, hourly, and student employees) are eligible to be nominated for and serve on a health and safety committee. You can nominate yourself or any other eligible employee. 

What do the health and safety committees do?

Health and safety committee members

  • Evaluate and prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and incidents;
  • Help review accident prevention programs;
  • Recommend solutions to safety concerns; and
  • Serve as a liaison between the committee and the UW personnel they represent.

How long does each member serve on a committee?

All committee members serve for a two-year term. The next two-year term starts on January 1, 2026.
