Motor Boat Operator Training

Students must have a Washington state boater's ID card. Departments must also demonstrate a need for the training.

This course, taught over three days, includes both classroom and on-the-water instruction to meet minimum requirements for safe operation of motorboats. It addresses legal requirements, preparations, navigation, operations, emergency procedures, rescue, self rescue, trailering, fire suppression, and basic seamanship. Students must pass a written exam and demonstrate certain skills through an on-the-water practical exam.

Required for operators of motored vessels in excess of 26 feet in length. Recommended for UW employees, students, or volunteers who operate motorboats as part of their work.
