DURC-PEPP Training Online
Intended audience
This course is required for principal investigators (PIs) and other laboratory personnel (e.g., graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research technicians, laboratory staff, and visiting scientists) conducting research with biological agents and toxins within the scope of the DURC-PEPP Policy.
The DURC-PEPP Policy applies to federally funded research that involves the following biological agents and toxins:
- Category 1 (DURC):
- Specific biological agents and toxins
- Category 2 (PEPP):
- An existing pathogen with pandemic potential (PPP) (i.e., SARS-CoV, SARS-CoV-2, Ebolaviruses)
- Any pathogen that will be modified so as to reasonably result in a PPP
- Generation, use, reconstitution, or transfer of an extinct or eradicated PPP (i.e., Variola major, Variola minor, 1918 influenza virus)
Retraining is required every three (3) years.
Description
This course teaches the U.S. Government Policy for Oversight of Dual Use Research of Concern and Pathogens with Enhanced Pandemic Potential (DURC-PEPP Policy) and the responsibilities of persons conducting research involving agents and toxins within the policy scope. Accessing DURC-PEPP Training on CITI Program
Getting Started
- Go to the CITI Program website: https://about.citiprogram.org
Logging In
- Click the "Log In" button in the top-right corner of the page
- Select "Log In Through My Organization"
- In the search field labeled "To find your organization, enter its name in the box below, then pick from the list of choices provided," type "University of Washington"
- Select "University of Washington" when it appears in the dropdown list
- Click "Continue to SSO Login / Instructions"
- Enter your UW NetID credentials on the Single Sign-On page. You will likely need to complete Duo authentication
Selecting Your Course
- From the dropdown menu next to "Show Courses for:", select "University of Washington"
- Scroll down to the question "What is your purpose in registering for CITI web-based training today?"
- Select the option: "I need to take training in Biosafety and Biosecurity"
- Click the "Next" button
- On the following page, select the "Dual Use Research of Concern (DURC)" training module
- Click the "Next" button
- Click the button to launch the Dual Use Research of Concern course
