EH&S Biosafety is sharing a message on behalf of the UW Export Controls Office:
There are U.S. export license requirements for certain pathogens and toxins, including genetic elements from, and/or genetically modified organisms containing such pathogens or toxins depending on the destination country.
If you plan to ship or take any pathogens or toxins out of the United States, contact exports@uw.edu to determine if an export license is required prior to export. If an export license is required, the UW Export Controls Office will apply for the license from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). Note that it may take at least several months to obtain an export license from BIS, so please reach out to the Export Controls Office as soon as possible.
The Export Controls Office can provide guidance and department- or lab-specific training. Please send all export compliance questions to exports@uw.edu.
