Lab Safety Team

Oversees safety and compliance in all UW research and teaching laboratory spaces; conducts lab surveys and inspections; provides safety resources, including risk assessments, safety manuals, standard operating procedure templates and training

Manages the MyChem chemical inventory system and safety data sheets

Provides information and support to persons working in the research environment, including animal care and use to prevent injury or disease from hazards in the workplace

Responsible for industrial hygiene and physical safety programs, including indoor air quality, outdoor heat exposure, wildfire smoke, asbestos and other regulated building materials, confined spaces, fall protection, hearing loss prevention, hazardous energy control, shop and maker space safety

Maintains strict regulatory control of radiation producing devices; approves authorizations for use of radioactive materials; controls the purchase, use and disposal of radioactive materials

Covers hazard evaluation, medical clearance, training, and fit testing for UW personnel who are required to use a respirator
