The Laboratory Safety and Compliance course is changing in response to attendee suggestions.
- An initial online course, Laboratory Safety Compliance will launch at the end of February. This online course provides background material on regulatory and policy requirements, and expectations of Principal Investigators (PIs), laboratory chemical hygiene officers, and other persons in supervisory roles in the research or teaching laboratory. The course covers how to assemble a chemical hygiene plan by augmenting the UW Laboratory Safety Manual with laboratory-specific information.
- A second course, Laboratory Safety Practices will launch in April. This classroom course will address common laboratory hazards, provide guidance on risk assessment and review best practices in the laboratory for routine practices. The course will provide access to tools and documents to support the laboratory in maintaining a safe workplace. A prerequisite will be the Laboratory Safety Compliance online course.
Both courses will be required for PIs, laboratory chemical hygiene officers, and other laboratory supervisors in research and teaching laboratories.
