This course is required for non-research personnel who are assigned work activities with a reasonably anticipated potential for exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious materials that may contain bloodborne pathogens (BBP) in accordance with WAC-296-823. This includes personnel who manage or clean up spills of human blood and/or other potentially infectious materials, as well as personnel assigned to provide emergency first aid as a primary or secondary duty.

University personnel required to take this training are also included in the University’s Bloodborne Pathogens Program. Research personnel are required to complete Bloodborne Pathogens for Researchers - Online.

Personnel are required to complete this training initially and annually during compensated work hours. EH&S is available to answer questions about this training Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling (206) 221-7770.

Important course instructions

When you launch the course, you will be directed to the Hepatitis B Vaccine Form. This form must be completed before you begin the course. The form can be launched again at the end of the course to modify choices. Personnel are required to complete the Hepatitis B Vaccine Form within 10 days of assignment to a position with potential exposure to BBPs and before work with materials that may contain BBP. If you choose to receive the vaccine, it will be given at no cost to you through a University Employee Health Center. You can find more information about the hepatitis B vaccine on the Centers for Disease Control website, and you can contact the UW Employee Health Center to speak with a nurse if you have any questions. The Hepatitis B Vaccine Form can also be accessed outside of training by using this link.
