There are only three LSC products
currently approved by the State of Washington Department of
Ecology for disposal down the sanitary sewer. They are soluble
(or readily dispersible) in water and contain less than 10%
non-ionic surfactants.
All releases to the environment of radioactive
material must be recorded and the records kept for inspection by
the Washington State Department of Health. Disposal of
radioactive material into the sanitary sewer is subject to
sanitary sewer disposal limits (Call Radiation Safety at
(206)543-6328 for more information).
Do not put LSC in liquid radioactive waste
pails (even sanitary sewer disposable fluids). It is against
regulations to bury LSC (which is what happens to the radioactive
waste pails). The only material allowed in such pails is liquid
radioactive waste in aqueous solution and the required absorbent
material.
