Disposal of Animal Carcasses

  • In the Health Sciences Building D-wing, there is a freezer in room D607; look for a yellow bin. The yellow bin is for RSO animal wastes. Do not put non-radioactive animal waste in the yellow bin.

  • RSO puts animals in a 30 gallon drum with lime and dirt to help decomposition.

  • Thirty gallon drums may expand due to gas from decomposition so they are overpacked in 55 gallon drum with diatomaceous earth.

  • Once filled, the drum is sent to Hanford for burial disposal.

  • Contact the RSO at 206.543.6328 if primates or large animals are involved or if there are any questions about waste disposal.
