Absorbed Aqueous Waste

  • All absorbed aqueous waste must be stored and disposed of in a Department of Transportation (DOT) type 7A container.

  • DOT type 7A containers must meet the following specifications:

    • Must be water tight and remain so after being sprayed with a fire hose.

    • Must be puncture resistant and able to withstand having a 1.25 inch steel rod dropped onto it from one meter.

    • Must be impact resistant and, when full, withstand a drop from four feet with no breaks or leaks.

    • Must be crush resistant and show no signs of collapse after being filled and stacked five high for 24 hours.

    • Can be purchased through the University in 3.5 gallon or 5.0 gallon sizes. Contact Radiation Safety for ordering information.
