Radioactive material must be secured from unauthorized removal or access. This includes:

    • Question strangers who enter the lab. Always ask any stranger who they are and what they are doing in your lab.

    • Washington State Department of Health Inspectors or other federal or state officials inspect the University of Washington and they may inspect your labs for security. Always ask for positive identification. State inspectors will confiscate your material if it is found unlocked or unattended.

    • Janitors and housekeeping staff, when cleaning at night, have unintentionally thrown out materials left out or near trash. Remember to mark all RAM with radiation trefoils and secure when leaving at night.
