  • Gamma rays and X-rays have no mass or charge, making them harder to stop.
  • High Z materials will shield most of the gamma or x-rays but, no matter how much shielding is used, some will still penetrate.
  • Gamma and X-rays can be shielded to background levels.
  • The lower the energy of the gamma or x-ray the less shielding is required.
