Quality Factor (QF)

    In terms of biological effects each form of radiation is given a specific number that indicates its ability to cause damage.

    The higher the number the more interactions in tissue are observed.

    This number is called the Quality Factor and is derived from observed effects seen on living systems.

    The QF for each type of radiation is listed in the following table.
