Bremsstrahlung Process

  • When a Beta particle approaches an atom it imparts some energy to the atom.

  • The Beta particle's path is bent and it goes off to interact with other atoms until it loses sufficient energy to be "absorbed" by an atom as an electron.

  • To shed the energy from the passing Beta, the atom releases the energy as an x-ray.

  • Each x-ray reflects the remaining energy of the Beta.
