Specific Gamma Ray Constant

Electromagnetic radiation dose rate from radionuclides can be calculated from the following:

    • Amount of radionuclide present [ mCi]
    • Number of photons per decay [Yield]
    • Energy of the photon [MeV]
    • Distance from the source [usually 1 meter]
These pieces of information can be combined into a single parameter called the Specific Gamma Ray Constant.
This constant can only be determined if the decay scheme of the isotope is known.
