Attenuation

Attenuation is the reduction of the number of primary photons in a beam of radiation.
  • Attenuation is caused both by absorption and scattering.
  • Below energies of 30keV, Photoelectric absorption dominates.
  • As the photon energy increases, Compton scattering begins to dominate.
