  • > 50 Gy (5,000 Rad) in humans for manifestation of this syndrome.
  • Death usually within 2 to 3 days.
  • Prodromal symptoms of nervousness, confusion, nausea, and burning sensations of skin.
  • Brief latent period (few hours) where person feels fine.
  • Manifest Illness stage within 5 - 6 hours of exposure.
  • Convulsions, coma, and death due to destruction of nerve and cerebral tissue.
