Long term survivors of Hiroshima & Nagasaki received exposures up to several hundred rads and have been monitored for various stochastic effects.

  • Sixty plus years of study of survivors and their offspring are ongoing.
  • 80,000 survivors of both blasts were identified.
  • 30,000 children born to survivors were also followed. The current cohort consists of over 300,000 individuals.
  • Cancer/leukemia statistically above normal occurrence were only seen in people who were heavily irradiated.
  • Children conceived after the explosion show no deviance from the natural mutation rate.
