Annual Limits on Intake (ALI)

ALIs are cumulative, meaning that if you inhale or ingest more than one radionuclide, the exposures would be added together to give you your total exposure.
ALIs are also a "rule of thumb." If you believe you have inhaled or ingested material you should contact the RSO at 206.543.0463 immediately for assistance. Based on bioassays the RSO can calculate your correct exposure.
If you believe you or a coworker have ingested, inhaled, or absorbed radioactive material you should contact the RSO immediately. The RSO can determine the best course of treatment.
Exposures in excess of the ALI are not life threatening, but will need to be calculated and documented. Remember that it takes much higher exposures to cause any biological damage to your body.
No one at the University of Washington has ever received greater than one ALI or exceeded any exposure limits, external or internal.
