Internal Radionuclide Hazards

There is a possibility of a radioisotope inadvertently entering the body. Once this occurs, most radiation protection techniques are somewhat limited.

Emphasis has to be placed on preventing radionuclides from entering the body. Proper clothing, personal habits, and posted reminders make it easier to prevent radioactive materials from being internalized.
The possible pathways where radioactive material can enter into the body are:

    • INHALATION
    • INGESTION
    • ABSORPTION
    • PUNCTURE
