At the entrance to the room of each patient undergoing implant or
radiopharmaceutical therapy will be "patient care instructions". In the patient's chart
are the telephone numbers of Radiation Safety, Radiation
Oncology and Nuclear Medicine departments (depending on the type of therapy).
Also, applicable pager numbers are listed for off-hours contact.
If the patient dies while undergoing a therapy procedure, notify Radiation
Safety immediately. The patient should not be moved from the room until
Radiation Safety, Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Oncology has been consulted.
Radiation precautions listed above should be continued.
Patients that code should be treated according to normal code procedures. Your radiation dose comes secondary to
someone's life, and would most likely be fairly minimal in most cases.
