Disposal of Non-Hazardous Chemicals in the Trash

trash can image

Some chemicals may go in the trash, with a few conditions:

  • The chemical must be on the list of approved chemicals on the EH&S website. This list is updated annually.
  • The chemical must be a solid.
  • You must securely double-bag the chemical and label it "non-hazardous waste" so that waste handlers know that it is not a hazardous chemical.

If you have any questions about whether your chemical can go in the trash, please contact EH&S.
