Segregation and ContainmentSegregate hazardous waste (and in fact all your chemicals) so that incompatible materials cannot react with each other. The biggest concerns are that acids are kept separate from bases, oxidizing acids (such as nitric acid) are kept separate from organics, and flammables are kept in a separate flammables cabinet. Use plastic bins to keep them separate and safe. Plastic bins serve another purpose: secondary containment. Secondary containment prevents spills from mixing. Also, secondary containment is required if there is a floor drain nearby.
