Labeled Containers

UW Haz Waste label

All containers used to accumulate hazardous waste must have a completed UW Hazardous Waste label (UoW 1157). We previously advertised a few possible minor exceptions to this policy, but our new policy keeps it simple: always use a completed UW Hazardous waste label.

A completed label has the following:

Contents:

Include percentages of each, including water if it's in there. The percentages must add up to 100%. Chemical structures and abbreviations are not acceptable.

Hazards:

Check any hazards that apply, using your knowledge of the chemical or an MSDS.

Lab Information:

Write your name, contact information, and location as shown to the right.

This label also prevents your coworkers from confusing your hazardous waste with new reagent.

This label is available on our website under Forms. Print out the pdf and tape it securely to your bottle. You can also call us and we will mail you copies.
