The Environmental Bulletins, otherwise known as the "Project Manager's Reference Document to Environmental Stewardship", have been renamed and reorganized into two groups of Design Guides: Environmental Protection and Hazardous Materials. These Design Guides have been moved to a new Web location along with other EH&S Design Guides. You may refer to all of these documents as “EH&S Design Guides”.
The Design Guides offer outlines and brief interpretations of regulatory requirements regarding environmental protection and hazardous materials management. They also include some history about issues unique to UW such as mercury contamination from laboratories. And, like the Facilities Services Design Guide, they describe related requirements that are unique to the UW.
The Design Guides were written for project managers as they plan and design projects, and for consultants as they write specifications. The Design Guides are also useful for Construction Managers because they include practical information about construction-phase issues.
Many environmental and hazardous materials regulations and procedures apply to both Capital Projects Office and Facilities Services. The Design Guides have been revised so that they are useful for anyone in Facilities Services who is planning or managing a project on campus that could impact hazardous materials or pollute air, water or soil. We have attempted to clarify where necessary when procedures differ for the two departments.
For those who were familiar with the Environmental Bulletins, a list of major changes follows:

- Reformatted to be consistent with the UW Facilities Services Design Guide
- Related documents hyperlinked to each other
- Rearranged in alphabetical order
- Edited for clarity and brevity
Specific reorganization:
- Fluorescent lamp recycling in separate design guide so easier to find
- Laboratory specific guidance (radiation safety, fume hood cleaning, lab move out procedures) moved into the Laboratory Safety Design Guides section
- Appendix A included in the asbestos Design Guide
Content updates:
- New policy on the disposal of debris with leaded paint
- New guidance on lamp ballast disposal and recycling
- New waste water disposal Design Guide
